Broadening Perspectives on Studying in the U.S. Through a Working Session with the University of Dayton and the Ellacy Foundation

On September 10, 2026, Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School held a meeting and working session with representatives from the University of Dayton (USA) and the educational organization Ellacy Foundation. The event not only gave students the opportunity to learn more about the U.S. higher education environment and available scholarship opportunities but also allowed them to connect and speak directly with experts and international education organizations to have their questions about future study-abroad journeys answered.

As part of the visit, Ms. Polina Schroeder, Director of International Admissions at the University of Dayton, toured several learning and activity spaces at Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School. Notably, she visited the Traditional Musical Instruments class taught by Mr. Hà Chí Bắc for Grade 10 students. In the class, students introduced her to and practiced with a range of traditional instruments, including the T'rưng, the flute, and the đàn tranh, and together performed two pieces, "Đường lên phía trước" and "Senbonzakura." The activity not only created a warm space for cultural exchange but also introduced the international guest to the distinctive cultural and artistic life of students at Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School.

Continuing the program, staff from the Ellacy Foundation presented an overview of current trends in studying in the U.S., helping students from Grade 10 to Grade 12 gain a clear picture of the application preparation roadmap at each stage. The organization's representatives introduced three core programs: Scholarship Commitment, Elite Admission, and Ivy Global. Each program is designed to suit different groups of students based on their abilities, orientation, and study-abroad goals.

In the next part of the program, Ms. Polina Schroeder, Director of International Admissions at the University of Dayton, introduced students to the university's learning environment and student life. As a private Catholic university offering a wide range of academic programs, the University of Dayton places emphasis on building a learning environment of a scale that allows students to interact closely with faculty and take part in research activities. Alongside academics, Ms. Polina also spoke about the diversity of the student community and the university's comprehensive support system, including programs focused on multicultural education as well as physical and mental well-being.

The working session between Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School, the University of Dayton, and the Ellacy Foundation gave students a wealth of practical information about the U.S. higher education environment, student support programs, scholarship opportunities, as well as academic, research, and hands-on activities available at the university. Beyond simply providing information, the program also opened opportunities for students to connect and speak directly with experts and representatives of international education organizations. Through these detailed insights and direct Q&A, students were able to access information about studying abroad in a clearer, more accurate, and more comprehensive way, while also resolving concerns about choosing a major, scholarship opportunities, the learning environment, and the process of preparing for their future study-abroad journey.

Students actively ask questions and exchange views with the speakers.

From the traditional musical instruments class to the discussions on the study-abroad journey and the learning environment in the U.S., the program created a diverse space for exchange spanning culture, education, and future orientation. It is hoped that the information shared during this working session will give students at Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School additional groundwork for exploring U.S. higher education and taking a proactive approach in preparing for the path of learning that lies ahead.
