The Journey Connecting Raffles Institution and Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School: From a Warm Welcome to the Pulse of Sport

On 29 September 2026, Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School was delighted to welcome teachers and a delegation of students from Raffles Institution (Singapore) on a visit and exchange at the School. This was an occasion for students of the two schools to meet, share learning experiences, explore each other’s cultures and broaden their understanding. In this way, the programme not only helped to strengthen the good cooperative relationship between the two schools, but also gave students the opportunity to connect with and learn from international friends.

As part of the programme, representatives of the two schools in turn introduced Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School and Raffles Institution, helping teachers and students gain a better understanding of the history, educational environment and distinctive features of each school. These open exchanges created opportunities for both sides to discover common ground in their educational philosophies and school development directions.

The atmosphere of the meeting became even warmer and livelier with a performance by the Traditional Musical Instruments Club (TMIC) of Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School. Melodies imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity became the School’s warm greeting to the guests from Singapore, helping to create a friendly exchange space rich in cultural colour.

Immediately afterwards, representatives of the two schools exchanged souvenirs as a token of friendly greeting and mutual appreciation. Each keepsake not only preserved the beautiful moments of the meeting but also helped to nurture close bonds, opening a memorable day of experiences with many meaningful activities ahead.

Moving on to the afternoon exchange session, the teachers and students of Raffles Institution had the opportunity to meet in person the Executive Boards (leaders) of the club system of Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School. More than just an introductory session, this was also a space for our friends from Singapore to share their broad perspectives on the extracurricular, arts and sports activities at their school.

The insights shared by Raffles Institution students opened up new perspectives on how to organise extracurricular activities.

Continuing the exchange programme, the Raffles Institution students shared interesting stories about club life at their school. Through these stories, students of Nguyễn Tất Thành Lower and Upper Secondary School were able to explore a colourful picture of extracurricular activities at Raffles Institution. These first-hand accounts brought the students closer together and, at the same time, gave students of both schools the chance to learn about one another’s interests, passions and school experiences.

Following the inspiring stories about extracurricular life, the Raffles Institution delegation had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the lively atmosphere of the sports clubs at Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School. Going beyond listening and observing, the Singaporean students joined club members in physical activities, tried their hand at various sports and gained a better sense of the enthusiasm and dynamism of the School’s students.

In particular, the exchange reached its climax with a friendly basketball match between members of the Nguyễn Tất Thành Basketball Club NBT (NTT Basketball Team) and Raffles Institution students on the school court. With no distinction between “guests” and “hosts”, students from both schools joined in the fast-paced rhythm of the match on court, competing for the ball, working together and giving their all in every play. The cheering, the rounds of applause and the excitement after every basket made the schoolyard livelier than ever. Whatever the final score, what remained most after the match was the noble spirit of sportsmanship and wholehearted dedication to their passion.

The visit between Nguyen Tat Thanh Lower and Upper Secondary School and Raffles Institution brought a day of exchange filled with laughter and valuable experiences. From stories about culture and club activities to moments of friendly sporting competition, every moment helped to broaden perspectives and build connections between friends from two educational systems.
